SINE DIREK, a benefit project for the scholarship program of DGPI (Directors’ Guild of the Philippines, Inc.), is comprised of six independently produced films directed by the Philippines’ most promising filmmakers namely: Joel Lamangan (FUSCHIA), Soxie Topacio (DED NA SI LOLO), Lore Reyes (LITSONERO), Peque Gallaga (AGATON AND MINDY), Mel Chionglo (BENTE), and Maryo delos Reyes (KAMOTENG KAHOY).

Graded A by CEB, or the Cinema Evaluation Board, Ded na si Lolo is a hilarious comedy directed by Soxie Topacio. Read Thor Bee’s review of the film here. Pecque Gallaga, who directed Agaton at Mindy says that it was apparently a relief to be able to make a film freely without constraints imposed by the producers. I met Pecque Gallaga when he gave a lecture in the enigmatic studio on the third floor of Gonzaga some couple of years ago and I thought he was nothing but wonderful.
